Originally from Yorkshire, England, I have been an engineer for 25+ years before I liberated myself from the rigidity of the UK work structure in 2004, and moved to Spain.
It was a bit of a leap of faith though, because I was to become an olive farmer in Spain, and I didn’t know a thing about olives! I also did not have a grip of the language then either.
We had 250 trees in cultivation that copped 1350 kilos (2970 pounds) of olives, and grossed a princely 750 Euros. It was obvious that the olives were not going to provide the lifestyle to which we strived.
However, it didn’t matter, because the soul searching I went through before I made the move had paid off. I had gotten out of the rotten rat race, Yee Haa!
I just had to do something else, so I started a renewable energy installation company, and an affiliate marketing business. Now I enjoy my work, which is more personal to me, and an actual enjoyment to do. I also thrive on developing myself because I learn something new every single day. I have a renewed vigour and energy now that translates to all aspects of my life.
