The education you receive at college does not prepare you, or teach you, how to become successful in the outside world. In fact, it singularly omits it.
A university course teaches an individual how to organise their mind, and to train it how to acquire knowledge. It does not specifically teach you how to succeed at the chosen subject.
However, before you know what it is you want, you cannot know what knowledge base to target!
So you see it all starts with your big idea, your passion. Finding these is the hard part, and once they are in place, you can go out to find the specific knowledge you need.
In my case, the knowledge I crave is that which shows me how to be a better person, and how to become a successful internet marketeer.
So now your education becomes targeted to the success of your idea/passion. But the knowledge and idea in themselves are not enough. You must apply the knowledge with imagination and verve to succeed. And once you’re on your way it is absolutely necessary to continually pursue more knowledge to keep ahead of the game!
There are many places to find specialised knowledge, particularly follow niche leaders to see what they are doing, analyse their methods, look at what technology they are using or recommending. Most leaders are sharing personalities this is the quality that sets them apart from the rest.
Definitely never take a temporary setback as total defeat! Learn to ride the waves. You can bet there is a piece of knowledge somewhere that will help you recover. It may be an item of new software, advice from a mentor, a snippet of information in a forum, or a technique you read in a blog.
So take my advice and get out there, search out leaders, join in the forums, find the books and courses to suit your niche, and GO EDUCATE YOURSELF!
